To apply for the first time or to re-join, click here for the Membership Page and then click on the link.  We look forward to receiving your application!  The link will lead you to read the Drug Control and Data Protection policies before applying. Your application will be submitted to the National Council for vetting; this vetting takes at least a week, and applications are submitted to the NC each Friday at midday.

If you are sure of passing National Council vetting, you can apply to enter a divisional event before your membership is confirmed, at your own risk of losing the entry fee if your vetting is not successful.

All memberships run from January to December, no matter when you join.

FAQs

I HAVE APPLIED!  AM I A MEMBER NOW?

 Not yet. Your application will be vetted by the National Council as part of drug control procedures.  This can take up to two weeks online, or three weeks by post. Online applications received by 12:00 noon on Friday are vetted by the following Friday.

Once an application is vetted and confirmed, the membership starts from the day it was received.

DOES MY MEMBERSHIP LAST A YEAR?

All memberships run from January to December, no matter when in the year you apply.

CAN I ENTER A COMPETITION AS SOON AS I APPLY?

You must have applied for membership before you compete in an event. It is up to you to join or re-join  in good time before a competition – see one- to two-week vetting period above.  However, if you are confident that you will pass vetting, you can apply for an event while you wait, at your own risk of losing your event fee if the application does not pass.

ONCE I’M A MEMBER, CAN I ATTEMPT TO SET A NATIONAL RECORD?

To attempt a national record, you must normally be a member for one month before the attempt. Click here to see the Rule Book for full details.  Note too that National records can only be set at National events.

I HAVEN’T GOT A COMPUTER OR A SMARTPHONE.  HOW CAN I APPLY?

You can apply by post or email.  Postal/email applications normally take up to three weeks to process after they are received.  You can get a friend to download an application form by clicking here, or you can write to: Dr Catherine Walter, BDFPA, Linacre College, St Cross Road, Oxford OX1 3JA

Affiliate as a BDFPA club

BDFPA affiliated clubs benefit from reduced rates for members – see member rates above.

You must be a BDFPA member to apply for club affiliation.  This is part of our drug control policy; your membership can be a free-of-charge Official membership.
